and also the British championships - Report by Grand Prix Rep … 2 representatives from RTC took on the Oulton park sprint duathlon. Bryan Lawton fresh from his open water exploits on Wednesday finished off his triathlon with a run bike run session. Finishing in 1.18.56 securing 122nd place overall and an impressive 13th place in the 55-59 age group. But probably more impressive was his negative split runs being quicker on the 2nd run than the first. Lawrence Boswell also had a good run out finishing 153rd overall but a more impressive 9th place in the 60-64 categories. For some there may be GB age groups letters dropping through the door? 2 other impressive results from local athletes. George booth finished an impressive 27th overall in the standard race & Saddleworth runner Martha Tibbot secured 3rd place overall and 1st in her age group, that on the back of winning the 2up mixed age category last weekend. And finally, not to be outdone, Alfie was the sole junior representative. Thanks to Oulton park for putting this on after cancellation of the cadence triathlon event for the juniors. Decent season opener for Alf always going to be difficult after a week of covid but 2nd fastest run, 5th off the bike but then “Alex yee like” ran himself back to 2nd. Next up is the West Lancs triathlon at Edge Hill 24th April this is a fast flat event but a great location or if you fancy a non competitive race. Race ! West Lancs Spring sprint Tri - Report By Our Grand Prix Coordinator Looks like some brilliant racing at the West Lancs sprint triathlon, race 2 of the Grand Prix series. Team Nattan look like very early contenders for Grand Prix honours building on their impressive result at the 2up duathlon. Natalie Williams probably had the most outstanding result finishing 14th overall but securing 2nd V40 female with a scorching 22.39 5k run to finish. Tana Tanya Vengrinova was close though, finishing a brilliant 8th overall and 3rd in the female Senior category with a storming 20.34 5k. Theresa Hollins lost out on 1st place in the v60 by only 6 seconds but still a brilliant 2nd place. Southport Triathlon - Race 5 Grand Prix Rounding off a fantastic weekend’s racing for RTC we had race 5 of the Grandprix series at Southport. Swim coach Neil Hollingsworth would surely not advocate doing your first open water swim of the year in a race. Despite this fact he was first RTC home, finishing 9th in the competitive 50-54 category. Nick Lees continued his good form keeping Andy Rogers at bay in a tight battle, both finishing 26th and 28th in the 50-54 category respectively. Both making me think I have some work to do before the relays so as to not let the team down. Trevor Morgan, also in the 50-54 category, had an amazing swim as per usual and then finished a respectable 52nd in his category. Jenny Kovacs’ imperious form continued with a brilliant swim/bike/run effort coming in just behind Nick and Andy, securing another podium for the season taking 3rd place in the 50-54 category. Brilliant effort by Rose Rowson to even get out on the bike and run after struggling in transition following the swim. What an effort to still finish 8th in the 60-64 category! Well done! How fantastic is it to be back racing again, not just for the RTC juniors but great to see so many juniors from lots of different clubs taking part. So to the race, not to be outdone by the seniors we manged to secure 2 podiums. First up was Emily in the youth race. Great swim and 2 consistent bike laps saw her finish 5th overall and taking the podium as 2nd youth female. Up next was Alfie in the T3 race, tough swim but clawed it back on the bike and finished with a blistering 8.41 2.5km run (fastest run) to finish 9th at the minute (likely to be 6th/7th due to some discrepancies). So where to begin. The swim : 800 people in the water & we had some amazingly fast swims with many on the half going under 30 mins. We had 36 participants and finished up with 5 age group podiums, 14 age group top 10 finishes and 8 in the top 50 overall male/female standings. RTC absolutely smashed the male 50-54 category and although we just missed a podium by minutes we had 4 triathletes in the top 10. In the Lakesman full we had 4 athletes (Teresa, Jeanette, Vicki & Paul) 2 of which won their age group, the other finished 4th and the final triathlete was Paul Elliot with no age group or podium but definitely won hero of the day running an extra lap after suffering all throughout his own marathon to help Theresa finish. Vikki smith was a pleasure to watch, if winning her age category wasn’t enough finishing with just over a 4 hour marathon is an amazing achievement.
